Who is
SupportED Steps?

Stacey K. Apfel, Founder of SupportED Steps

With decades of experience in education, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside families as they navigate the often overwhelming world of IEPs, 504 plans, and vocational services. My work is rooted in a desire to support families and bring clarity to processes that can feel confusing or isolating.

Through my years as a Special Education Teacher, Case Manager, and Vocational Coordinator, I’ve come to understand how important it is for families to feel informed and confident when advocating for their child. I founded SupportED Steps to provide that kind of support, with compassion, patience, and a practical understanding of how schools work.

Whether helping break down complex documents, preparing for meetings, or planning for life after high school, I aim to be a steady, experienced guide.

My goal is simple: to empower families so their children can thrive—not just in school, but in life.

Mission Statement

SupportED Steps’ Mission is to empower families of children with IEPs and 504 Plans by providing clear, compassionate guidance, practical resources, and ongoing support. Every child deserves a meaningful and inclusive education. The commitment to walk alongside families—step by step—is key in the special education and general education process, as is advocating for a child's needs, and building stronger partnerships with schools.

SupportED Steps Philosophy

Families are their child’s most powerful advocates. This philosophy centers on empowering parents and caregivers with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to actively participate in—and lead—their child’s educational journey.

The IEP and 504 process is not just a system to navigate, but a series of teachable moments. Through guidance, education, and real-world strategies, families gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and needs. The goal is to turn confusion into clarity and uncertainty into action, helping families become informed and develop a greater level of comfort as they navigate through what can sometimes feel like an overwhelming process.
